THE PROJECT

Rokstad Power delivers services to the local utility territories throughout Arizona. This includes all aspects of Sub Transmission and Distribution work including construction of new revenue projects, feeder upgrades and maintenance activities.

UNIQUE CHALLENGES

  • Weather – Arizona is known for its severe heat, crews have to be trained on working in these conditions and wear speciality fire resistant gear.
  • Employee & Public Safety – A large percentage of the work performed for the local utility takes place in heavily populated and high traffic volume areas, requiring high visibility, increased hazard analysis, and special attention toward isolating our work sites.

69kV/12kV Falcon Substation Rokstad was awarded a new project to install a 69 kV/12 kV substation in Glendale, Arizona by Arizona Public Service (APS). The project includes the installation of new foundations, ground grids, trenching, conduit, perimeter fencing and gates along with all electrical construction. Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiter (REFCL) Project Rokstad was awarded a pilot project to install 13 Capacitive Balancing Units (CBUs) and perform 45 other work orders (reconductoring, underground work, Viper switches, regulators and minor circuit arrangements) to support the CBUs. Read more →
Fire Restoration Work In 2020, California set a record for most acres burned in a single year, eclipsing 4 million. Rokstad was tasked with securing numerous crews and tools, mobilizing to the affected areas, and restoring the grid to working order. Read more →
PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutdown) Patrol Work Due to the high potential for wildfires in California, PG&E has been proactively shutting down power during high-wind events. Rokstad has logged over 8,000 man hours on PSPS Patrol Work in 2020. Read more →
Western Canada Streetlight Replacement Our Western Canada Division just signed a new contract with BC Hydro to replace approximately 16, 400 streetlights in the Southern Interior of the province. The work will commence in September of this year and conclude by the end of 2023. Read more →
PG&E – Inspection Work We are currently inspecting both distribution and transmission power lines in Northern and Central California. Read more →
SCE – 55kV Rebuild The project includes setting new steel poles in place of the existing wood structures and reconductoring both circuits installing 336 ACSR conductor. Read more →
Southern California Edison (SCE) – Electrical Construction Services Rokstad Power was awarded a significant portion of the work under the Electrical Construction Services Contract. This program is a distribution service contract, performing both underground and overhead services for SCE over the following regions: Desert, Orange, Metro East, San Jacinto, Rurals and North Coast.
