Interior To Lower Mainland (ILM) 500kV Transmission Project

Project Description

Location: Merritt to Coquitlam, British Columbia
Details: 500kV, single circuit, 4 bundle, 250km
Completion Date: October 2015

The ILM project consists of the construction of a new 250km single circuit 4 bundle 500KV lattice steel transmission line. The line runs between two existing BC Hydro electrical substations located near Merritt, BC and Coquitlam, BC. The new line parallels an existing 500kV line for most of the route along an existing right-of-way. Rokstad Power is conducting the assembly and erection of transmission line towers, and the installation of overhead conductors, associated hardware, and insulators.

The line traverses diverse terrain, including multiple elevation changes, areas with year round snow pack, bog, and multiple long river crossings.

Rokstad Power assembled a highly skilled team of industry leading trades and project management personnel in order to address the unique challenges presented by the project. In addition, a comprehensive inclusion policy was enacted to form strategic partnerships with local First Nations through which services were provided, training programs were implemented, and long-term partnerships were formed.

The project is ongoing.
